아버지와 꼭 닮은 사람에 대해 "그는 아버지를 꼭 빼닮았다. " 고 하는데, 영어로는 "He's a chip off the old block." 이라고 한다.
가령 "He's a chip off the old block. He behaves just like his father does." 하면 "그는 아버지를 꼭 빼닮았다. 아버지와 똑같은 행동을 한다. " 는 뜻이며, "He's a chip off the old block.It would be better if he took after his uncle." 하면 "그는 아버지를 빼닮았다. 숙부를 닮았으면 더 좋으련만. " 이란 뜻이다.
