<영어하루한마디>빠를수록 좋다

『언제 만날까요?』라고 물어오는 상대방에게『빠르면 빠를수록 좋지요.』라고 말하고 싶을 때는 『The sooner,the better.』라는 표현을 사용한다.이와 같이「the+비교급」을 사용해 상황에 따라 다양한 표현을 만들 수 있다.
예를들어『The simpler,the better.』(간단할수록 좋다)『The hotter, the better.』(뜨거울수록 좋다.)등이 있다.
A:Jack, I'd like to have a conference with you.
B:Sure, but I'm not free until after lunch.
Can we meet then? A:O.K.
Let's make it around two o'clock this afternoon.
B:Fine.
I'll come to your office either at two o'clock or earlier if I can.
A:All right.
The sooner, the better.
B:O.K.
I'll try to make it as soon as possible.
A:잭,너와 의논할 일이 있는데.
B:좋아.그런데 점심시간 이후에야 시간이 나겠는데 그때 만날까? A:그래.오늘 오후2시쯤에 만나자.
B:좋아.2시나 가능하면 그 이전에라도 너의 사무실로 갈게.
A:좋아.빠를수록 좋으니까.
B:알았어.가능한한 속히 만나도록 하지.
