Father Fryme,who was visiting with old Mrs.Crandall, admired her parrot.“Pull his right leg,“ said Mrs.Crandall.The priest did as she asked and stood back in amazement as the parrot intoned the Lord's Prayer.“Now pull his l eft leg,“saidthe old lady.This time the parrot recited the Rosary.
“What will happen if I pull both legs together?“ joked the priest.“I'll fall on my ass,you dummy,“ said the parrot.
…………………………………………………………… 늙은 크랜달 부인의 집을 방문중이던 프라임 신부(神父)가 그녀의 앵무새가 귀엽게 생겼다고 칭찬했다.그러자 크랜달 부인은『앵무새의 오른쪽 다리를 잡아당겨 보세요』라고 말했다.신부는 그렇게 하고 나선 깜짝 놀라 뒤로 물러섰다.앵무새가 주기도문을 외웠기 때문이었다.
『이제 왼쪽 다리를 잡아당겨 보세요.』부인이 말했다.
그러자 앵무새는 이번엔 로자리오를 암송했다.『두 다리를 한꺼번에 잡아당기면 어떻게 될까요?』재미를 느낀 신부가 크랜달 부인에게 농담을 던졌다.『멍청아,그러면 내가 엉덩방아를 찧겠지!』앵무새가 대답했다.
