<영어하루한마디>됐으면 얘기해

잔에다 술을 부어주면서 『됐으면 얘기해』라고 할 때 흔히 쓸수 있는 표현이 『Say when.』이다.
즉 『Let me know when to stop pouring.』(그만 부을 때를 알려 주시오)의 의미다.
『Say when.』을 직역하면 「when이라고 얘기해」라는뜻이니까 됐다 싶을 때 대답으로 『When.』이라고 하면 된다.『Say when.』은 어린 아이에게 오줌을 누게 할 때도 쓸 수 있는 표현이다.
『Say when.』에 대해 『그만 됐다』라고 할 경우 『When.』외에도 『No more please.』『Not another drop.』『That's good.』『That's enough.』 등을 쓸 수 있으며 『아직 멀었어.』라고 할 경우에는 『No t quite.』『Just a little more.』『In a minute.』라고 하면 된다.

B:Would you like some more? A:Yes,just a bit.
B:Okay.Just say when.
A:That's enough,thanks.
B:Please pour me some,too.
A:이 맥주 맛 기막히네.
B:좀 더 마시겠어? A:그래,조금만 더 할게.
B:좋아,됐으면 얘기해.
A:됐어.
B:내 잔에도 좀 따라줘.
