한때 유류 파동으로 경기가 침체됐을 때 어떤 한국인이 미국인회사에서 일시 해고(lay off)당했다.마침 함께 일시 해고당했던 미국인 친구가.『We're in the same boat.』(같은 처지군요)라고 했다.『We're in the same boat.』는 「우리는 한 배를 탔군요」라는 뜻이며 결국「우리는 같은 처지군요」라는 의미다.비슷한 표현으로는 『We're in the same situation.』『We're in the same position.』등이 있다 .
A:I got another big project.
B:We're in the same boat.I just got another difficult project,too.
A:I was hoping to go on vacation next month,but now I can't.
B:I don't think I'll have much free time either.
A:Let's hope this'll let up sometime soon.
B:I'll be ready for a vacation once this project is over.
A:큰 업무가 생겼습니다.
B:같은 처지군요.나도 막 어려운 계획이 생겼습니다.
A:다음 달에 휴가갈 걸 고대하고 있었는데 못 가게 됐어요.
B:저도 시간적 여유가 없을 것 같습니다.
A:금명간 일이 줄어들길 바랍시다.
B:이 계획이 끝나기만 하면 즉각 휴가를 준비할 겁니다.
