이야기의 핵심을 말하지 않고 다른 말만 하는 사람에게『요점을말해 주십시오』또는 『본론으로 들어갑시다』라고 할 경우『Let's get to the point.』라고 한다.이 경우 point는 「요점.요지」의 뜻으로 『나는 당신 말의 요점을 모르겠다』고 할 때는 『I don't see your point.
』하면 될 것이고 『그의 말에는 요점이 없다』는 『There's no point to what he's saying.』이라고 한다.『Let's get to the po int.』와 비슷한 표현에는 『Let's get down to business.』『Let's get down to brass tacks.
』『Let's be straight about this.』등이있다. A:It seems we're spending too much time on small details here.
B:I agree.Let's get to the point on this.
A:If we resolve the big issues,the small ones should resolve themselves.
B:Right.I think so too.
A:Let's start fresh tomorrow,and clear all of this up.
B:That's good.Let's make it at 8.
