Two masked robbers with air guns made off with about 4.4 million won ($5,000) from a branch of Nonghyup, the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, in Daegu, North Gyeongsang province yesterday, police said.
The robbers broke into the bank and forced a female bank teller to put the money in a black bag while threatening her by firing shots at the ceiling, Daegu police said.
“As he pointed the gun at me, he told me not to ring the alarm bell,” said the teller.
The robbers escaped in a getaway car they prepared in advance.
No one was injured. Six people, including two female customers and four employees, were present at the time.
According to a witness, the robbery took about three minutes.
Police found what they called the robbers’ getaway car at Hwawon-eup, Daegu, about a kilometer (0.6 miles) from the scene of the hold-up.
Police said the vehicle had been confirmed stolen on Saturday in Daegu.
The police are seeking the two robbers based on descriptions by eyewitnesses and images from a security camera at the bank.
The two robbers, both men, are estimated to be in their mid-20s and about 170 to 175 centimeters (5.58 to 5.74 feet) tall.
In a similar case last November, armed robbers escaped with about 20 million won ($213,000) after holding up another branch of Nonghyup in Gwangju city, Gyeonggi province.
They were arrested in three days by the police who tracked them down from clues left at the scene, such as a motor scooter that the alleged criminals left behind.
