<영어하루한마디>620. 저는 이곳 토박이입니다

태어난 곳에서 성장한 사람이“저는 이곳 토박이입니다.”라고 하는 경우가 있는데 영어로는“I was born and raised here.”라고 하면 된다.

비슷한 표현으로는“I've lived my entire life here.”또는“I was born and grew up here.”라고 할 수 있다.

반대로 태어난 곳과 자란 곳이 다른 경우,가령“저는 부산에서 태어났지만 서울에서 자랐습니다.”라고 하려면“I was born in Pusan,but was raised[grew up] in Seoul.”이라고 하면 된다.

또“목포가 고향이지만 초등학교 3학년때 서울로 이사왔습니다.”라고 하려면“I'm from Mokpo,but I moved to Seoul when I was in the 3rd grade.”라고 하면 된다.

A:You sound as if you've got some sort of accent.

B:It's a dialect actually.

A:Where's that from?

B:Pusan. I moved to Seoul in the third grade. How about you? Where are you from?

A:I was born and raised here.

B:I thought so.

A:억양이 좀 있는 것 같군요.

B:사실 사투리죠.

A:어디 사투리입니까?

B:부산 사투리입니다.초등학교 3학년때 서울로 왔지요.당신은요? 어디 출신이세요.

A:저는 이곳 토박이입니다.

B:그렇게 생각했습니다.
