컴컴한 곳에서 총을 쏘면 표적을 맞히기가 어려운 것처럼 'to take a shot in the dark'는 아무것도 모르는 상태에서 추측한다는 표현입니다. 'take a shot'은 쏜다는 말이고 'in the dark'는 '캄캄한 곳에서'라는 뜻입니다.

B:Really? Good for you. Now you don't have to sit at home on Saturday night. Who is the lucky woman?

A:That's for me to know and you to find out.

B:I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say that it's Serena.

A:You're wrong.Wanna guess again?

B:No.

A:나 이번 주말에 데이트가 있어.

(예)OK, shoot, tell me what you want from me. (좋아, 뭘 원하는지 말해 봐.)

To get shot down:실망시키다, ~의 아이디어를 무너뜨리다.

(예)My idea got shot down by my manager. She said it was too complicated. (매니저가 너무 복잡하다고 하면서 내 아이디어를 무참히 짓밟았다.)
