<163>Hired gun 어려운 일이나 특별한 일을 하기 위해 짧은 기간 중 고용되는 사람

원래 이 표현은 '살인 청부업자'라는 뜻입니다.

하지만 business나 sports 등에서 어떤 결과를 얻기 위해 특별히 고용된 사람들을 지칭하기도 합니다.

A:Did you hear that the company hired a Harvard MBA?

B:Yeah, he's only going to be working for three months during the summer.

A:I heard that he's getting paid a lot.

B:He's a hired gun to promote the summer program going.

A:I hope he works out.

B:He will.You know how people love the Harvard name.

A:우리 회사가 Harvard MBA를 고용한 것 알아?

B:응, 여름 석달 동안만 일한대.

A:임금을 많이 받을 거라고 들었는데.

B:여름 프로그램을 잘 되게 하기 위해서 고용된 거래.

A:그 선생님이 일을 잘 했으면 좋겠다.

B:그럴 거야. 사람들이 하바드란 이름을 얼마나 좋아하는지 알지?

To gun for something/someone:누구에게서 무엇을 얻으려고 하다.

(예)I know that John is gunning for me in the next poker game because I took his money last time. (지난번 포커게임에서 내가 존에게서 돈을 땄기 때문에 다음 번 게임에서는 나를 겨눠 돈을 따려고 할거야.)

Guns blazing:진취적인 자세로 ~을 하다.

(예)That speaker came in with guns blazing.He got right to the point and tried everything to sell his product. (그 연설자가 진취적인 자세로 나왔다. 직선적으로 말하면서 자신의 제품을 팔려고 최선을 다했다.)
