어떤 계획이 예상을 빗나가거나 실패로 돌아갈 경우 '물건너가다' 라고 할 수 있는데 영어로는 'There goes~' 라는 형식으로 표현한다.
따라서 "There goes my vacation." 하면 "휴가는 물건너갔군. " 이란 뜻이다.
"There's too much work to do until the end of the month. There goes my vacation." 이라고 하면 "월말까지 할 일이 너무 많아. 휴가는 물건너갔어. " 란 뜻이다.
"There goes my vacation." 과 유사한 표현에 "My vacation plans have gone up in smoke." "My vacation plans have gone down the drain." "My vacation plans are blown." 등이 있다.
A: You have to finish this pile of work by next week.
B: But I was going to get away from work then.
A: Well, you'll have to forget about that.
B: There goes my vacation.
A: This is very important.
B: All right. I'll do it.
A: 다음주까지 이 일더미를 처리해야 해.
B: 하지만 그때 휴가 갈 예정이었는데.

B: 휴가는 물건너갔네.
