우리말로 『대가를 갚아 주마.』『어디 두고 보자.』고 할 때쓸 수 있는 영어표현에 『You'll pay for this.
』가 있다.그런데『어디 두고 보자.』라고 한답시고 『나중에 보자.』를 직역해 『I'll see you later.』로 얘기한다면 완전히 엉터리 영어가 된다.『You'll pay forthis if it's the last thing I everdo.』라고 하면 『내가 결코 할 일이 아니지만 어디 두고 보지.』라는 뜻이 된다.『You'll pay for this.』와 비슷한 표현에 『I'll get you for this.』『I'll even the score.』『I'll get even with you.』 『I'll seek my revenge on you.』등이 있다.
A:Hey! Who put that “Kick me” sign on my back? B:Tee-hee! I did! A:You'll pay for this.
B:You'll have to catch me first.
A:That's why people have been kicking me all day! B:Tee-hee! Catch me if you can! A:누가 내 등에 “날 차 버려”라는 딱지를 붙였지? B:히히! 내가 했어.
