257. Whatever You Say

‘무엇이든지’라는 의미의 whatever는 적극적이라기보다는 수동적인 동의를 하는 경우에 주로 쓰입니다.

▨Conversation▨
A:How many college applications are you filling out?
B:At least fifteen, I guess.
A:That will cost your parents a fortune.
B:With my poor grades I have no other options.
A:Whatever you say.
B:You’d do the same if you were in my shoes.

A:대학 원서는 몇 개 작성하니?
B:최소한 15개 학교는 될 걸.
A:너희 부모님께 재정적 피해가 크겠는데.
B:점수가 좋지 않아서 다른 방법이 없었어.
A:네 말대로 해야겠지.
B:너도 나와 같은 상황이라면 그랬을 거야.

I’ll do whatever you tell me to do.(네가 시키는 일이라면 뭐든 다 할게.)
Whatever you do, don’t forget where you came from.(무엇을 하든 네가 어떻게 자랐는지 잊지 마.)
