러시아의 Putin 대통령이 Yeltsin의 뒤를 이어 4년의 임기를 시작했다.

AP통신은 " Putin's neighbors prepare to deal with tougher Russia." (러시아의 주변 국가들은 좀 더 강경해진 러시아와 상대할 준비를 하고 있다.)라고 전한다.

'deal with' 라는 표현은 누구를 상대하거나 어떤 일을 취급.처리할 때 자주 쓰인다.

예를 들면 "Tony is difficult to deal with." (토니는 상대하기가 어렵다.) "The manager will deal with all complaints." (매니저가 모든 불평들을 처리할 것이다.) "How shall we deal with this problem?" (이 문제를 어떻게 처리할까?)

그러나 일반적으로 대화에서는 'take care of' 가 더많이 쓰인다.

"Could you take care of this letter from a customer?" (고객으로부터 온 이 편지를 처리해 주겠습니까?) "Don't worry about your flight reservation. It's all been take care of." (비행기 예약건은 걱정하지 마세요. 전부 처리되었습니다.)

한편 "My mother-in-law always takes care of my baby while I'm out." (내가 외출할 때는 시어머니께서 항상 나의 아기를 돌봐주신다.) 에서처럼 돌본다는 뜻으로도 쓰인다.

A:Hi, Andy. Did you get the fax from Samsung?

B:Yes. They asked for some information about a new machine. But I can't handle it now. I have to go through all these documents for the meeting. Could you….

A:I see what you mean. I'll take care of it.

A:앤디. 삼성에서 온 팩스 받았니?

B:응. 새로운 기계에 대해 정보를 좀 얻고자 하던데. 그런데 내가 지금 그 팩스를 처리할 수가 없어. 회의 때문에 이 서류들을 전부 검토해야 하거든. 네가 좀….

A:알았어. 내가 처리할게.
