[영어한마디]995.제말을 믿으세요

어떤 일을 놓고 상대방에게 자신의 말을 믿어 달라고 하는 경우 "제 말을 믿으세요. " 라고 하는데 영어로는 "Take my word for it." 이라고 한다.

가령 "I'll pay off my debt by the end of next month. Please take my word for it." 하면 "다음달 말까지 빚을 다 갚겠습니다.

제 말을 믿어 주세요. " 가 되며, "You shouldn't go up the steep mountain in the winter.Take my word for it." 하면 "겨울에 가파른 산을 올라가면 안돼. 내 말 믿어. " 라는 뜻이다.

"Take my word for it." 과 유사한 표현에 "You have my word." "Please believe me." "I'm telling the truth." 등이 있다.

A:Do you think I should invest in Ace Co.?

B:Stay away from it.

A:But, I heard that it's not a high - risk stock.

B:According to today's newspaper, all market analysts downgraded the stock.

A:Are you sure?

B:Take my word for it.

A:Ace사에 투자해야 한다고 생각하세요?

B:투자하지 말아요.

A:하지만 위험 부담이 높은 주식은 아니라고 들었습니다.

B:오늘 신문에서는 시장 분석가들이 모두 그 주식을 저평가했어요.

A:정말이세요?

B:제 말을 믿으세요.
