act는 on과 쓰여 ‘실행에 옮기다, 결정을 내리다’라는 뜻으로 사용됩니다.

A:I just received Nortel’s proposal on the Malayan joint venture. What do you want me to do with it?
B:Send it down to assessment for a feasibility report.
A:Right. And when do you want assessment’s report by?
B:We need to act on this right away, so the sooner, the better.
A:Alright. I’ll take care of it without delay.

A: 말레이시아 합작투자 건에 대한 놀텔사의 제의서를 방금 받았는데요. 어떻게 할까요?
B: 실행 가능성 검토를 위해 평가부로 내려 보내세요.
A: 알겠습니다. 그리고 평가부의 보고서는 언제까지 원하시죠?
B: 바로 결정을 내려야 하니까, 빠르면 빠를수록 좋아요.
A: 알겠습니다. 지체 없이 처리하도록 하겠습니다.

As a lawyer, it’s your obligation not to act against the interest of your client. (변호사로서, 의뢰인에게 불이익을 주는 행동은 삼가는 것이 네 의무이다.)
If the board doesn‘t act on the proposal soon, the funding will be pulled. (이사진이 제의를 빨리 이행해 옮기지 않으면, 자금이 회수될 거다.)
