서로 사이가 좋지 않아 툭하면 다투는 사이를 묘사할 때 '서로 앙숙이다' 고 하는데 이것은 'be at each other's throats' 로 표현한다.

가령 “They're at each other's throats night and day.” 하면 “그들은 밤낮 다툰다.” 가 되며 “They're at each other's throats as they don't get along.” 하면 “그들은 사이가 안 좋아 앙숙이다.” 가 된다.

“They're at each other's throats.” 와 비슷한 표현에 “They're always fighting.” “They don't get along.” “They're at odds against each other.” (그들은 서로 반목하고 있다. ) 등이 있다.

A: How're the new workers?

B: Terrible! They don't get along at all.

A: Really? I didn't know that.

B: Yes. They're at each other's throats.

A: That doesn't sound too good.
