틀에 박인 무미건조한 생활에 변화를 주면 삶의 활력소가 된다.

“변화는 생활의 활력소다.” 를 영어로는 “Variety is the spice of life.” 라고 한다.

가령 “To avoid boredom, we should remember that variety is the spice of life.” 하면 “따분함을 피하려면 변화는 생활의 활력소라는 것을 기억해야 한다.” 가 되며, “Variety is the spice of life so we should always try new things.” 하면 “변화는 생활의 활력소이니 항상 새로운 일을 시도해야 한다.”라는 뜻이다.

“Variety is the spice of life.” 와 비슷한 표현에 “Variety is good.” 이 있다.

A: What did you do on the weekend?

B: I did the same old stuff. I just watched TV.

A: Variety is the spice of life.

B: So what?

A: Why don't we go fishing together next weekend?

B: I'll think about it.

A: 주말에 뭘 했니?

B: 똑같은 일 했지. 그냥 TV 봤어.
