How many are there in your party?미국 식당에 가면 안내자가 흔히 『일행이 몇 분입니까?』라는 뜻으로 『How many are there in your party?』라고 하거나 『How large is your party?』라고 한다.여기서 「party」는 「일행 」(a group of people assembled)의 뜻이다.「political party」라고 하면 「정치적 단체」니까 「정당」의뜻이며 「party leader」하면 「당수」의 뜻이 된다.또「party」에는 「상대방」이라는 뜻도 있어 국제 전화시 「operator(전화 교환원)」가 전화를 받을 상대방과 연결시킨후 『Your party is on the line.Please go ahead.』(전화 받으실 분이 연결되었습니다.말씀하십시오)처럼 말할 때 사용되기도 한다.
