직역하면 머리에 있는 구멍만큼 무언가가 필요하다는 것으로, 바꿔 말해 필요 없다는 뜻입니다. 다소 비꼬는 의미가 들어 있습니다.
A:I can’t believe that we have another test in math class.
B:We’ve had a test every week until now.
A:I haven’t had this many tests in any other class.
B:I’m sick and tired of these math tests.
A:I need this next test like a hole in the head. I have so much work to do.
B:You said it.
A:수학 반에서 또 시험이 있다니 믿을 수가 없어.
B:이제까지 매주 시험이 있었잖아.
A:다른 반에서는 이만큼 시험을 많이 보지는 않았어.
B:이 수학 시험들 때문에 짜증이 나.
A:이번 시험은 정말 필요없어. 할 일이 너무 많아.
B: 맞아.
ace in the hole :숨겨진 이점
(예)Sam is my ace in the hole when it comes to doing well in math because he tutors me. (내가 수학을 잘 하는 숨겨진 이점(이유)은 샘이다. 그는 바로 나의 과외 선생님이다.)
to ace something:매우 잘하다.
(예)I aced the math test.(나는 수학 시험을 정말 잘 쳤다.)
