영어X파일 22 북 리포트

책을 읽은 뒤 느낌과 의견을 북 리포트로 쓰면 논리력과 창의력을 키울 수 있다. 북 리포트를 쓸 땐 줄거리를 소개하는 데 그치지 말아야 한다. 읽은 사람의 감상이 주가 돼야 한다. 소설을 읽고 북 리포트를 쓸 경우 소설의 3대 요소인 주제·구성·문체와, 구성의 3대 요소인 인물·사건·배경을 중심으로 쓴다. 그 후엔 제목(Title), 이름(Name), 작가(Author), 배경(Setting), 인물소개(Main Characters), 줄거리(Plot), 느낀점(Opinion) 등 7개 요소가 빠지지 않았는지 검토한다. 북 리포트를 쓰는데 익숙해지면 배경, 인물소개, 줄거리를 순서대로 쓰기보다 글 속에 자연스럽게 녹여내는 것이 좋다. 다음은 북 리포트를 쓰는 순서 설명과 예시문이다.

The Greedy Elf(느낌, 주인공 특성, 주제 등을 담은 제목 만들기) / Rumpelstiltskin(책 제목)/Hong Gildong(학생 이름)/Title & Author(책 제목, 지은이, 출판사): I read Rumpelstiltskin by Paul O. Zelinsky (Oxford Books publishing company).

-Setting(이야기의 시간적·공간적 배경 찾아쓰기): The story takes place in an imaginary castle. I think this is a good setting because it makes me think of magicians, and Rumpelstiltskin uses magic in the story.

-Main and Support Characters(주인공과 주변인물들의 성격과 특징 쓰기):The main characters are Rumpelstiltskin and the miller’s daughter. Rumpelstiltskin is a selfish elf who help the miller’s daughter only in exchange for his desires. The support character is a servant who helps the miller’s daughter.

-The writer gives a summary of the plot(주제에 맞게 줄거리 요약하고 문제 제기·해결하기): Rumpelstiltskin is about the miller’s daughter who makes three deals with Rumpelstiltskin. The king demands that the miller’s daughter spins straw into gold for the king. Rumpelstiltskin agrees to help of course only if she gives him something in return. He wants her first-born child with the king. If she cannot guess his name in three days, he will win. In the end, a servant help the miller’s daughter learn Rumpelstiltskin name and she is released from her promise.

-The writer gives reasons to explain why he(or she) recommends the book(책을 읽은 느낌·의견 쓰기): I would definitely recommend this book to my friends. This interesting storyline kept me guessing right up until the end. I felt sorry for the miller’s daughter and was happy when she discovered Rumpelstiltskin’s name.
