[영어 하루 한마디]802. 누군가와 부딪쳤습니다

문을 열 때나 모퉁이를 지나치다 다른 사람과 부딪치는 경우가 있다.

이런 경우는 'bump into' 라는 표현을 써서 “I bumped into someone.” 이라고 하는데 여기서 'bump into' 는 '~와 부딪치다' 라는 뜻의 관용구로 가령 “I bumped into a coworker while turning a corner.” 하면 “모퉁이를 돌다가 동료직원과 부딪쳤다.” 가 되며, “I bumped into someone while rushing out the door.” 하면 “나는 문을 급히 나가다가 누군가와 부딪쳤다.

” 가 된다.

“I bumped into someone.” 과 비슷한 표현에 “I crashed into someone.” "I collided with someone." 등이 있다.

“누군가와 부딪칠 뻔했다.” 는 “I almost hit someone.” “I managed to avoid colliding with someone.” 등으로 표현하면 된다.

A: What happened to your forehead?

B: Oh, I bumped into someone while entering the door.

A: That must' ve hurt quite a bit.

B: Yes. But I'm afraid the other guy got the worst of it.

A: Why? what happened to him?

B: His nose bled.

A: 어쩌다 이마가 그렇게 됐지?

B: 아, 문을 들어서다 누군가와 부딪쳤어.

A: 거 참 아팠겠네.

B: 그래. 하지만 부딪친 남자는 훨씬 더 아팠지.

A: 왜? 그 사람은 어찌 됐었는데?

B: 코피가 났어.
